- "Grounding Symbol Exercises" from Reiki Symbol Exercises by Guy Whettam. Released: 2024. Track 1.
Reiki practitioners often use the Raku symbol to help themselves or their clients stay grounded. This symbol, also known as the fire serpent, represents a lightning bolt coming down from the sky. It symbolises the flow of life force energy, or chi, down the spine through the chakras.
Grounding is a term used in various spiritual healing practices, and it refers to bringing your energy down to earth. During a healing session, it’s typical for the practitioner and client to enter a heightened state of consciousness and connect with higher energies, which may cause you to feel scattered or spaced out during and after the session. This happens because all your energy moves to your head and needs to be re-grounded by pulling it back towards the earth, to your feet.
As with the other symbols, repeating the Grounding symbol’s name three times, either in your mind or out loud, when drawing or visualising is essential. This will become second nature in time. The pronunciation is ‘RA KOO’ – but you should always write/spell it correctly (Raku).
As a Level 2 Reiki practitioner, becoming familiar with the symbols is crucial. You should practice drawing them until they become second nature. Always visualise the symbol in purple, as this is considered the colour of Reiki energy.
The following three exercises have been designed to help you experience the effects of the Power symbol before using it on others.
Whenever a symbol is used/drawn, you must say the mantra for each symbol three times.
Now, draw the Grounding Symbol with the palm of your hand, repeating the symbol’s name three times as you do so. ‘RA KOO‘, ‘RA KOO’, ‘RA KOO’.
Visualise the Grounding symbol merging with your energy field, paying attention to any sensations or changes within your subtle energy system, such as goosebumps, radiating warmth, tingling or other noticeable sensations.
Take a moment to write down any sensations you felt before repeating steps 1 to 5.
