- "Power Symbol Exercises" from Reiki Symbol Exercises by Guy Whettam. Released: 2024. Track 1.
The Power Symbol, also known as Cho Ku Rei, is an important and potent symbol utilised in the practice of Reiki. Its primary function is to improve and concentrate the flow of Reiki energy. The symbol, represented by a spiral or coil, translates to “placing all the powers of the universe here.” It is often used at the start of a Reiki session to enhance the practitioner’s ability to channel healing energy.
The Power Symbol, a foundational Reiki tool that enhances the healing process, is incredibly versatile. It allows practitioners to direct energy to specific areas of the body, cleanse spaces, and improve the effectiveness of other symbols. It also serves as a spiritual switch—you may hear it referred to as the ‘light switch’—intensifying the healing energy and making it more accessible in various situations. It is a foundational tool in Reiki as it enhances the healing process.
The uses of the Power symbol are limitless. Some examples of this symbol’s usages include:
There are two ways to draw the Power symbol. The clockwise version is believed to energise and empower, while the counterclockwise version is used for cleansing and healing. The traditional version has the counterclockwise spiral; we encourage you to familiarise yourself with it. However, we have provided the second version to use when you feel it’s appropriate.
The diagram below shows both versions and how to draw them. Please practice both.
As a Level 2 Reiki practitioner, becoming familiar with the symbols is crucial. You should practice drawing them until they become second nature. Always visualise the symbol in purple, as this is considered the colour of Reiki energy.
The following two exercises have been designed to help you experience the effects of the Power symbol before using it on others.
Before beginning exercises two and three, you must commit the Power symbol to memory. Repetition is vital in this regard, and we recommend spending a minimum of one-hour drawing and redrawing the symbol on paper, preserving the correct stroke sequence each time. Once you can effortlessly manifest the symbol in your mind’s eye, you can proceed to the remaining exercises.
I urge you not to rush this step, as your commitment and devotion to the process will affect the rewards of your practice.
Whenever a symbol is used/drawn, you must say the mantra for each symbol three times.
Now, draw the traditional anticlockwise Power Symbol with the palm of your hand, repeating the symbol name and mantra three times as you draw. ‘CHO KU REI’, ‘CHO KU REI’, ‘CHO KU REI’
