There are three main Reiki Level 2 symbols. These were the keys given to Dr Usui on Mount Karama. The Reiki healing system is passed down through these unique symbols from master to student. The symbols play a significant role in the practice of Reiki, serving as sacred keys to unlock and focus specific energies during a healing session.
Pronounced ‘Cho Koo Ray‘, this is the Power Symbol used to direct, increase and focus Reiki’s healing power.
Pronounced ‘Say-Hey-Key‘, this is the Harmony symbol used to balance the upper four chakras mentally, spiritually and emotionally.
Pronounced ‘Hon-Sar-Zee-Show-Nen‘, this is the Distance symbol, which forms a connection between dimensions, transcending space and time.
Each symbol maintains a unique vibration and intention, contributing to the holistic healing process, and practitioners typically learn and incorporate them during their training to enhance the effectiveness of their energy healing sessions.
The symbols are typically drawn with the hand while channelling the flow of Reiki through the palm chakra but can also be drawn using the eyes by tracking the shape of the symbol and with the tongue, although this method can be a bit more challenging. Alternatively, for those who are very familiar with the symbols, they can be visualised in the mind’s eye.
It is important to draw the symbols precisely to show respect for their spiritual significance. However, during a meeting in 1982, minor differences were discovered between the symbols drawn by the descendants of Madam Takata. This may have happened because she did not allow them to take notes, and they had to rely on their memory.
The proper way to draw the symbols is the way your Reiki master has shown you. (As shown in further modules within the course) Those who have received the symbols through attunement can use them regardless of how they are drawn. The symbols’ power does not originate from their perfect representation but from the spiritual connections made with the energies represented by the symbol during the initiation process. There may be variations in the symbols of each student, but each student’s symbols are correct for them, and the essence of the symbol remains the same. Your intention activates them and manifests the specific energies associated with them.
It is highly recommended that you practice drawing the symbols on paper frequently. The more you use and draw the symbols, the easier it will become to activate them through visualisation and intention.
Each Reiki symbol has a corresponding mantra, which should be repeated three times silently if other people are present. Each mantra works with its related symbol, but the mantras themselves have power, and chanting them can bring about a sense of calm, connectedness, and bliss.
Whenever a symbol is used/drawn, you must say the mantra for each symbol three times.
The Power symbol’s name, pronounced ‘Cho-koo-Ray‘ must be repeated three times when drawing or visualising this symbol.
The Harmony symbol’s name, pronounced ‘Say-Hi-Key‘ must be repeated three times when drawing or visualising this symbol.
The Distance symbol’s name, pronounced ‘Hon-Sar-Zee-Show-Nen‘, must be repeated three times when drawing or visualising this symbol.
The Power of Three is a significant concept in various cultural and symbolic contexts, representing balance and wholeness. In spiritual traditions, the Power of Three is associated with creation, balance, and cycles of existence, adding a sacred dimension to its significance. Whether expressed in religious trinities, the stages of life, or narrative structures, the Power of Three resonates as a symbol of strength, unity, and a harmonious interplay of forces, contributing to its enduring and universal attraction.
