In Reiki, the four symbols represent specific metaphysical energies. These calligraphic symbols are derived from either Sanskrit or Japanese kanji. Although typically shown in ink on paper, they are vibrational and three-dimensional in nature. They have height, width, and depth, and their size is infinite. They are a form of spiritual energy with their own consciousness, vibrating at a very high frequency and can be as small or as large as necessary. While there are limits to the size of the symbols that can be drawn with your hand, it is possible to imagine any of the symbols large enough and deep enough to encompass a whole person, building, or planet yet small enough to fit on a postage stamp or inside a single cell.
Reiki symbols are considered transcendental in nature, as they are thought to establish a direct connection with higher consciousness.
When attuned to the 2nd degree, using a Reiki symbol changes how the Reiki energy functions. The energy is still Reiki, but it becomes empowered differently depending on the symbol or combination of symbols used. Despite their power and spiritual nature, the symbols are easy to use and work automatically every time; there is no need to be in an altered state, such as deep meditation. Reiki symbols are like keys that unlock higher levels of awareness and buttons that trigger specific actions when pressed. The symbols alone do not possess power but serve as an amazing and beautiful way to connect with the higher power of Reiki.
It is a common misconception that one can use Reiki after seeing a symbol in a book or online. The symbols are activated through spiritual empowerment received during attunement. Without proper attunement, the symbols cannot activate Reiki. During an attunement, the energies of each symbol enter the student’s mind, body, and spirit. So, whenever students use a symbol, they channel the same energy they connected with during their attunement. Dr Usui discovered the symbols within the sacred texts he studied. However, he could not activate their power until after his spiritual empowerment on Mount Kurama during his 21-day cleanse.
Individuals often report increased sensitivity and awareness of subtle energies after receiving a Reiki attunement. Reiki is believed to open spiritual channels and facilitate the flow of universal life force energy, or Chi, promoting balance and healing on physical, emotional, and metaphysical levels. This increased awareness can lead to a deeper connection with one’s intuition and the spiritual realm.
Many practitioners describe an improved ability to perceive and communicate with spiritual guides or guardian angels who may be assigned to assist in their healing journey. These guides may offer guidance, support, and insights to help individuals navigate challenges and enhance their well-being.
The attunement process is a transformative experience that enhances the ability to channel healing energy and opens the door to a more profound spiritual connection and understanding.

Simply blend 5 to 20 drops of your favourite essential oil(s) with a tablespoon of carrier oil (we recommend using Grapeseed or Argan oil).
Then gently swirl 3-5 drops of your favourite Eternal Sunshine blend into a warm bath to unlock the therapeutic benefits that pure essential oils have to offer.
